If I could go to any world, it would be to Carsonville, Indiana in 1988, the setting for my search for self books. I would like to experience high school again and just go through the struggles they face.

I got the ideal for Long Way From Home from my own experience as being 17, pregnant and unmarried and how I went to a home for unwed mothers. The book is set in 1988 and back then it wasn’t so acceptable to be pregnant without a husband.

I just start with the first sentence. I never know what a book is going to be about until I finish it. Sometimes the words come easy and I’m able to finish a book fast. Other times I have to struggle to find a character’s voice and I just want to give up in frustration. I love writing so much and it’s like it’s a part of me. Every day when I wake up I think about what I’m going to write next and I keep a pad and pen by my bed because sometimes I think of stuff in my sleep to write about.

Don’t give up on your dreams. Everybody has one good book in them. I think if you hang in there that you will get published. I’ve written numerous books since I was in high school and just now at 56 have I begin to get published. I know it won’t take anybody else that long, but you have to believe in yourself and know you can get it done.

I get to use my imagination a lot and discover new characters and take them on adventures. I’m able to help my characters in the search for self series discover themselves and deal with different situations.

I keep on trying to think of something to say. If I’m working on one book and hit a brick wall, I go to another book. Usually, I’m able to think of something to write and if I give it a few days, I can come up with something for the other book too.
