Amanda Giorgis I have been looking into my family history. I discovered that a relative on my mother's side was killed in a training flight during WWII. His plane crashed into a house in Cambridgeshire before reaching the runway. The people who lived in that house were distant cousins on my father's side. What a coincidence!
Amanda Giorgis So many to choose from. As a child I would have joined the Swallows and the Amazons, of course, sailing their boats on the lakes or in the broads. Now, well, there's 18th century Cornwall with Ross and Demelza, perhaps. I expect I would be one of the villagers who scrape a living at the mines!
Amanda Giorgis 'Where the Crawdads Sing' is turning into one of my favourites. Great Summer read. And I'm re-reading 'The Handmaid's Tale' to set me up for the sequel.
Amanda Giorgis I haven't been a proper writer for very long but the best thing about writing is being able to escape into the story and feel a close relationship with the characters.

Second best is hearing from people who have read the book and got to know and love the characters as much as I did when I was writing it.
Amanda Giorgis Book 2 of the Applecross Saga. Life continues for the settlers in the Mackenzie Basin. But a mystery person is looking for James. Good news or bad?
Amanda Giorgis There's always been a book in my head somewhere, just waiting to fall out onto paper. I left it far too late in life to settle on a plot that really inspired me!
Amanda Giorgis Last Christmas a friend came to stay with us and got hooked on the true story of James Mackenzie, after whom this part of New Zealand is named. It inspired me to look deeper into the story myself. I found facts were mingled with legends. Nobody knew for sure what happened to James, nobody really knew if he was a thief or a hero. On his arrest for sheep rustling three sets of footprints were found, and it occurred to me that there was a story to be told about the owners of the other feet! From this idea The Wideawake Hat was born.
