Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

R.K. Appling I came up with the idea for The Solterian Keeper many years ago and started writing it because of my fascination with aliens. I also had the desire to create a world I envisioned alien life living in, and wanted to entertain the idea through a fiction story of what it would be like if aliens really existed. As I wrote each character, I found myself forming a special bond with all of them. Once the first book was complete, there was no doubt I needed to continue the story. The first book of The Solterian Keeper introduces the reader to this new world the main character, Daniel is thrust into with much more to come throughout the series.

How do you get inspired to write?

R.K. Appling Sometimes the ideas come to me out of nowhere. Sometimes it depends on where I am, what I see or something I smell. It could also be from something I hear in conversation, on television or in a movie. Even dreams can spark an idea occasionally. But when an idea won't leave my mind and it keeps coming back to me again and again, then chances are it is the story I want to write.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

R.K. Appling If writing is what gets you out of bed each morning and the last thing you want to do before you go to sleep at night, then don't ever stop doing it. Doing something you love should never feel like work. It should be as easy as breathing and we all need to breathe in order to survive.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

R.K. Appling Just as Dory said in Finding Nemo, "Just keep swimming"; instead I tell myself "Just keep writing." Writing anything you can possibly think of to get the creativity in motion is better than writing nothing at all.
