Lyra Adams During my life, I have experienced numerous synchronicities --- things that are absolutely beyond coincidence or mathematical probabilities. While I wrote about some of them in my memoir, Dreaming Synchronicity ~ Journey of an Empath, there are some I held back that could be a nice basis for any plot.
Lyra Adams In the immediate future, I am designing a unique journal that will be a nice companion offering to my first book. After I complete that project, I have to look at all my babies and see which one is crying the hardest.

Basically, I have two separate fictional series I work on periodically. One is geared at middle school age to adult readers. The other series is adult romance.

Additionally, I have several non-fiction items that I have begun and want to complete. Again, I am going to have to look at all these and decide which one needs to come first.
Lyra Adams Clearing of the mind is helpful. If I can take five minutes before I begin and meditate, I find that raises my brain level activity making me more receptive.

In my environment, I use a few tricks. None of them are completely necessary, just little helpers. For instance I sometimes play a particular music mix in the background. I also use essential oils in a diffuser. If it is mid-afternoon and I start to feel sleepy, I indulge in a favorite flavored coffee and a couple of cookies. I also love writing in nature.

Most of the things I am inspired to write about happen suddenly. It can be a conversation I overhear; one line in an email I read; a thought that happens on a walk or while driving. I used to tell myself that I would remember it and write it down later. That did not happen with enough frequency. Now, I try to get it down somewhere immediately - whether I speak it into my phone or write it on a piece of paper.

For writing, I either use notebooks and write by hand (I love purple pens) or I use an old laptop that is not connected to the internet. While it is only five feet from my computer that is web connected, this provides a lot less distraction for me. I also turn off my cell phone while writing.
Lyra Adams You must write. Check out The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. Her morning pages method has been key for me to go from being a person dabbling at writing to putting together a book that is cohesive and meaningful. I have to steal time to write because I have so many responsibilities. I can no longer afford to wait until I am "in the mood". I must Be The Mood. Anything you want bad enough you can have some version of. So, just do it and don't be afraid of competition or negative comments from others. Through finding you, your writer's voice will emerge. It is as unique as your fingerprint.
Lyra Adams The readers are seriously the best thing. They write me with their stories and often give examples of how they identify with me and my writing. This gives me great satisfaction. My tribe of followers has just begun. They are hidden gems that make me want to keep creating.
Lyra Adams Dreaming Synchronicity: Journey of an Empath seemed to swell in me like a growing baby that had to be born before I could go on to other works. It literally took on its own persona and drove me to write it.
Lyra Adams I live so much in my head that I always have ideas blowing around like leaves inside my skull. I find that the trick is catching them in my hand and getting them down on paper, on a voice recording device, or inside my computer. When I feel like I don't know what to write about, I have numerous ideas and notes to look at and pursue.
