Commit as much time as you can to writing. Spending a lot of time on it will do two things:
1. You'll actually produce something.
2. You'll see whether you really want to do the work of writing. Some people find that they just don't like spending so much time alone, inside their own head. If that's the case, maybe their calling is to be out among people, and that's a better fit for their gifts and their personality.

I love using my imagination to explore human dilemmas and the human heart. I think my own understanding has increased as I've had to put myself into the mindsets of my characters. It's like the expression about walking a mile in someone else's shoes. When I finished writing The Songs We Hide, I felt like I'd walked a couple thousand miles in my characters' shoes.

Another novel set mostly in Hungary, but partly in the U.S. The story moves back and forth between 2006 and 1944/45.

When I was an elementary music teacher, I learned about the music and teaching methods of Hungarian composer Zoltan Kodaly. I was amazed by the ways Kodaly had promoted artistry in his country during two world wars, economic shattering, and the incoming of communism. His example inspired me. My book isn't about him, but it's set in Hungary, and the two main characters are singers.
