I was at a dinner with a table of strangers for an event, and one person at the table - no distinctive details! - just leapt out at me as a potential character. That led to thinking about everyone at the table, and what their back stories would be. I thought I'd try to write a story for every one of them, and put them at an event where they'd all be sitting down to dinner - a wedding reception.
Most of the characters in the book are purely fictional, but one of the stories is definitely inspired by the person I met at that event - I'll leave it to you to figure out which one.

Next up for me: start working on a longer piece, something novel length. I have a couple of great ideas cooking and I'm currently writing "test pieces" - bits and bites and little scenes from my big ideas to see what will pop.
