Thanks, Felicia. So glad you loved the book. I had so much fun writing in Huck's voice that I'd love to find a way to keep going. Stay tuned!

The reason I'm a writer is that I love to *read*. And what I love about reading - and writing - is losing myself in an alternative version of the world. When I come out of a good book, the world seems new again.

I'm working on two books.
The first is an educational policy book called EDUCATIONAL REDLINING.
It asks why school districts are still allowed to discriminate against you based on where you live. I argue that assigning students to schools based on their residential address is both ineffective and morally wrong.
The second is a novel called BRINGING MIRANDA BACK about a scientist who tries to clone his dead wife. Three of the eggs hatch, and hijincks ensue. This one will be more fun than the policy book, I promise.

When I was in the third grade, I wrote a story about a kid who finds a magical potion that shrinks him down to the size of an ant. A classic adventure story.
I don't really need to get inspired to write. It happens automatically. Storytelling is how my brain processes the world.

I was reading Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn for the first time in many years, and I was astounded by how modern it is. It's still hilarious, and Huck is just such an incredibly endearing character.
Around the same time, Simone and I went on a kayaking trip on the LA River. And somehow those two ideas came together in my brain. Huck Finn and the LA River. Huck Finn and the LA River!
And then the question...If Huck is on the run in today's world, with whom is he on the run?
