I hope it helps teen readers realize that they are not alone when it comes to mental health issues or worrying about whether you are "enough" for the people around you! Everyone deals with these sort of issues, even people you believe have everything together.

I wish I was a chef -- at least, I believe I wish I was a chef, based on reality television, haha.

Definitely the opportunity to share this journey with fellow writers (hello, 2k19ers and Novel19s!), the feedback I have gotten from readers so far, and the support of my agent, who is the literal best :)

Thank you! So, when it comes to the four best friends factor, the simple answer is just that I put my own friendships into the book. To be clear, none of the characters are based on real people, but the dynamic I gave them is definitely one I stole from the people in my life ;) I really wanted to write about lifelong friends who sincerely have each others backs, even when they're irritated/angry/confused with each other.

(Turn back if you want to be completely surprised!)
There are so many great YA books that deal with suicide, but I do think there is perhaps a little more emphasis on the "external factors" that might lead a person in that direction, and not quite enough emphasis on the internal factors. Jenna, Ket, and Rosie are all pretty convinced they know the reasons why Elin did what she did, and it's going to take them the entire book to learn that their assumptions aren't quite right. Fingers crossed you need some tissues! The biggest thing I want readers to take away from the book is that the way a person presents him or herself to the world does not always reflect what is really going on with that person. And also that girl friendships are bomb and we should cherish them :)

Hopefully it won't be terrifying! (Though my CP with teenage daughters did leave me that one comment ... hmm ...) There were a lot of factors that inspired me to write the book, but I think the biggest one is reading so many wonderful YA novels that deal with the issue of suicide in a way that I felt was incomplete. (Is that vague? I'm sorry, I don't want to spoil my own book!)
