Ryan Chaplin The nice thing about writing is that there is no rush. If I don't know what to write, then I stop. Most people have a few quality production hours in them each day where their mind is at its best. If I am writing a book, I am sure to use these hours wisely. For me, this is in the morning about an hour after I wake up. Once I start running out of "writing juice" I stop. It's better to write quality material than forced material. I believe the readers can tell the difference.
Ryan Chaplin The most recent book I wrote was "The Dirty Traveler". This one just had to be written. I have read various travel blogs and other books, but none had all these points in it. These were points that I feel really need to be on the mind of travelers. I thought that, for the few dollars for an e-book, and a few hours of reading, people can save themselves some trouble and have a higher quality travel experience if they invest in this book. I read it back to myself recently and definitely had a good few laughs while reading it.
Ryan Chaplin I enjoy projects in general. I enjoy having that extra motivation to get going every day. When I have a project going, everything in my life goes a little better because I am more motivated because of it. For example, I recently built a large back patio for our house. By association, my daily work life is better, my time with my children is better, and the patio itself goes better. So, having a book to write is a longer term project that gives me that extra daily motivation to do more and do better in general, and that feeling self fuels the writing itself.
Ryan Chaplin Right now, I am updating "Industrial Ultrasonic Inspection". This is a technical book, but I have some great ideas for making it a better teaching tool for technicians.
Ryan Chaplin Once you know what you are going to write then plan the book out. Whether it is fiction, or non fiction, have a basic book outline of what happens and what the basic content is from start to finish. This way, the book keeps a more general flow and stays more organized.
