Write. Just write. It doesn't even matter what gets you started. I've been writing since I was little. The first "novel-length" stuff I wrote was actually fanfiction (Harry Potter and the Eragon series, believe it or not). Even if you never show that to anyone, it gets you writing.

The project I'm drafting right now is called The Soldier's Wife. It's a modern retelling of the story of King David, Bathsheba, and her first husband, Uriah. In my version, Ryan (Uriah) is stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The story mostly follows his wife, Barbara (Bathsheba), and the struggles she goes through. Often, people spend more time focusing on David, and we rarely think about what it must have been like for Bathsheba.

Don't Ask Me to Leave came from my wedding vows. My husband and I were married in 2002, and we used Ruth's words to Naomi as our vows. The words have always been so important to me, and one day, when I was re-reading them, I started wondering what it would be like for Ruth and Naomi today. That was it! The story was born.
