I read as much as I can and I pay attention. I notice what moves me, what scares me and what angers me about our species. I remember what I love about us too and what I hope for my children.

Sri Lanka is a beautiful and dark place. It is located at the nexus of rising and falling super powers. It is an exotic paradise with savagery hidden just beneath the surface.
It has many stories, some of which are buried in the mass graves of its people. I'm trying to tell some of these stories as best I can. I try to watch, read and listen.

I am working on my a political thriller set in Sri Lanka at the end of the civil war. It is 2009, a high profile journalist has been assassinated and three people are investigating her death: her Sri Lankan Tamil lover, an American human rights lawyer and a Sri Lankan Sinhalese investigator. These three people are bound together by a tragedy that happened in Sri Lanka seven years before the story unfolds. In seeking justice for the journalist, they are also trying to find a way to forgive each other and themselves for what happened before.

Allowing myself to write. I am learning to value myself and name myself as a writer, instead of "aspiring writer", "failing writer" or "new writer". I write therefore I am a writer. I love to write, therefore I am a writer.

I write, write and write some more. I follow Stephen King' advice in On Writing. I shut the door, imagine superglue on my bum and just bash away for as many minutes or hours as I've got. For Book 3 (still in progress) I became much better at stealing moments to write instead of just using the larger blocks of time I had. So for example, if I had 20 minutes whilst the children were having screen time, I opened up the manuscript and just bashed away for 20 minutes.
