One of the best ways is to have something else to work on, if you're stuck on the first thing. It's a Goldilocks balancing act though, getting the number of current projects "just right" (and sometimes, for both good and not-so-good reasons, that choice is out of your hands)... But often that's one of the best ways to get "unstuck."

Riding a go-kart outside of Las Vegas, some years ago, with my eldest son.
I was suddenly struck with the of a horde of zombies in go-karts and dune buggies, riding across the desert in pursuit of someone.
Out of that image, "Max Random" was born. The currently in-process second book is slated to be set in Vegas (or at least its ruins). Not sure if the zombies themselves will be piloting vehicles yet....
