Michael Schein Don't bother everybody with banal computer-generated questions just to stir the social media pot.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Michael Schein John Surratt, the Lincoln conspirator who got away, hid out in Canada while his mother Mary Surratt stood trial and was hung for conspiracy to assassinate Lincoln. I began to wonder what kind of person could stand by while his mother was on trial for her life; what the dynamic was between mother and son; and how deeply they were each involved in the plot. From there, a book blossomed.

How do you get inspired to write?

Michael Schein I read history.

What are you currently working on?

Michael Schein The less interesting part of writing - selling my current book. If you are a writer who thinks this is the best part, then perhaps you should examine why you are a writer. If there's too much ego involved (heck, we all have some), everybody would probably be better off if you went into marketing a different "product".

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Michael Schein Write. And don't be afraid to write what you DON'T know. We're all fools, we're all shamans, we're all wise enough if we tap into what's true.
