Don't think about publishing process/ sales/ marketing/ being the next Rowling or Bhagat/ troll from friends n family... all this will come much, much later.
For now, just recognise the fact that you are writing because you want to write. Take competition out of equation, especially when writing your first book and do it as you played any game as a child.
Believe me - the raw and real joy of writing can only be experienced in your first book. After you're a published author, your second work will carry a lot of expectations and pressures (depending upon the result of your first outing). But the purity of mind may well have been diluted by then...
so do enjoy your first outing. It is like going on your first date - the excitement and nervousness will be most cherished later.

1 line - you are the master of the universe! (from good ol' He-Man cartoons)
You want to make a sexy girl fall for a fat guy; you can do it in your story.
You want to call a war upon your enemy nation; you do it in your story.
You want life to shift to moon and beyond, you can make taxes disappear from countries, you can make eating pizzas as the answer to obesity and cholesterol; you can make your wildest imaginations come to life in YOUR STORY.
The power of writing can elevate you into your make-believe world, even if for few days/weeks (depending upon how long you take to write the story). It is a very liberating feeling.

I had my fair share of it, but they were mainly due to being not able to stick to a writing schedule. Otherwise my mind had always been raring to write and create the story.
So i'd stick to conventional wisdom (in my next book) - make a schedule and die with it! Even if its writing for 40-60 minutes a day, do it. It can be the ugliest piece of crap. Let editors too earn their living later.

I have always been interested in stories. The story has to have some element of fun; a bit of philosophy and a lot of positivity by the end of it.
When i find such stories, i fall in love with them. The medium could be any - movies, books, Facebook, shared by someone etc.
When i don't find such stories, i start creating them in my head...and then it helped that I am a loner and really don't mind spending hours-by-the-calender with, just myself. So writing became an outlet by its evolution's natural course.
I wouldn't be lying when i say - i really, really enjoyed the process of writing my first book (even though I am hating marketing it now). So its not that i went out looking for it, it chose me.

With RoadTrippers Series first instalment COLORFUL NOTIONS expected to release next month; i have currently given a break to my writing schedule.
But my mind is at work on 2.0, tentatively titled SHANGRI-LA. It is another travel expedition, this time to Himalayas and in its never-ending nest of secrets. This one will also be soul-searching (or notions) but with a bit of a mystery as well.
