Great question! I've always loved writing and I used to write with a friend when I was in high school. All our characters were our age so I was writing YA without even realizing that it was an actual age-group in publishing. (It was also a little bit before the Twilight craze, but I guess that was technically my first gateway YA book) but when it came down to actually wanting to publish a novel I ended up with writing a middle grade book first! Then the idea for KISS OF THE ROYAL came along and that ended up being YA by nature.
At the end of the day, the age-group that I write for a novel comes down to the story idea itself. And my YA ended up being the first one to be published :)

Hi there! I would say there is more violence in this book than your average romance novel because it is pretty heavy fantasy. The action scenes can be rather intense and the monsters are pretty vicious. It's not as brutal or graphic as The Hunger Games for instance, but there is quite a bit of action and fighting.
