Wow! Great question! I am going to have to go mainstream and say Romeo and Juliet, for their insane infatuation with each other, and their willingness to defy everyone's expectations and forfeit their lives to pursue their intense feelings for one other. Runners up would be Lyra and Will from the "His Dark Materials" series for showing us how beautifully friendship can turn to love in early adolescence. And Andrew and Allison from "The Breakfast Club" for seeing something in each other nobody else could.

I started out thinking I was going to be writing a book about village of fairies in a magical forest. Well, the forest remains in Chapter One, but there are no fairies in it, just a scared boy running for his life. I just ran along with him, and his path led me to "The Orphan's Secret." Readers will note that plenty of magic remains. But no fairies.

I get inspired when I allow my mind to wander. This is usually when I am on a long drive, or a long walk, or, strangely, in the middle of the night. I also get inspired by all of the beautiful things in this world: people, food, smells, sights, objects... And through my writing I help readers better appreciate and connect with the world around them.

I am currently perfecting Principality Book Two, "The Captive Twin," and Book Three, which has an awesome title I haven't yet made public. All three books in the series are written. I'm just doing some fine tuning.

Most of all, you have to love writing. You write because you love to, and because you want to share the magical ideas in your head with others. Don't do it for the money. Don't copy other people's work. Connect your soul to the page, and let the magic flow.

Getting to know your own characters. Each of my characters has a gorgeous, complex personality and a unique style. I put them in different situations and watch how they respond. They never cease to surprise and impress me.

Time is the only real cure for writer's block. I believe creativity comes in waves. If you are in the trough of the wave and the creative spirit has run dry, you can bet that in a day or two that creative energy will start creeping back.
