Kane X. Faucher (another canned, overly general question). I do not believe in writer's block as such any more than I believe that I experience an eating block between meals, regardless of how far they are spaced apart. Writing, like several other activities, occurs in ebbs and flows. Forcing myself to write when I am not disposed to the activity at the time seems a bit silly and counterproductive to me.
Kane X. Faucher I ignore the rhetoric of inspiration as largely trite.
Kane X. Faucher What is an "aspiring writer"? One writes, or one does not write. If the question is geared toward how to become a famous writer, talk to a famous writer (I'm far from one of those). If the question is geared toward how to be recognized as someone who writes among a peer group, I suppose just produce some writing and gain consensus from that group.
Kane X. Faucher I don't fetishize "being a writer" as this is to subscribe to the kind of reductionist identity that confuses the self with some attribute or role. If being a writer was all that I believe defined me, it would be inauthentic, and would suggest some kind of ego disturbance.
