Rory D. Nelson That's an excellent question. Some people in my life have felt that my life story would have made a good plot for a book, but I'm not exactly comfortable sharing some of those intimate details.
I think it would have to be embellished and I would have to change the names of characters in order to protect the innocent though. College for me was a time for experimentation, introspection and discovering who I was .
I took a shit load of drugs, was promiscuous and committed countless burglaries and traveled throughout California in an attempt to " break on through to the other side".
In retrospect, I don't think My experience was that enlightening. I was merely embracing hedonism and using it as an excuse for self discovery. In other words, I was just having a good time.
The real mystery for me is why I began to write at the age of 40. I almost feel like a stenographer and conduit to another world. While this is probably not true, I would someday like to explore this theme in my fiction.
Rory D. Nelson Thank you Janell for your interest. Actually, you can download "The Brotherhood of Merlin" prequel " Dawn of the Merlin " for free by going to my website and signing up for the Brotherhood Blog at Rorydnelson.com. You will learn all about me and my deranged life.
The sequel to "The Brotherhood of Merlin" will be released on October 31, 2017. It's titled "The Brotherhood of Merlin: Book 2 Lycenea". If you enjoyed the first one, you're going to love this one!
Also, on March 1st, the crowdfunding for my second book will go live. Please check it out on Indiegogo and be a part of one of the greatest groundbreaking series in the history of literature.
Rory D. Nelson That's a tough question! There are a lot of really great, inspirational couples to choose from. For me, I would have to say Arwen and Aragorn from Lord of the Rings are my favorites.
Their love was timeless and transcended political boundaries, race and the fact that Aragon was mortal while Arwen was immortal.
For years they pined for each other while unable to take another lover- a true testament to the strength of their love.
Rory D. Nelson Since I’ve been writing my fantasy series, I haven’t ever had writer’s block. The storyline has continually unfolded for many years and the truth is I find it difficult to actually keep up with writing it. I do have times where certain plot intricacies have to be worked out and my writing slows down, but that does little to impede my progress. My master plotline is well established and encompasses numerous books. The challenge for me is merely finding the time to write and edit it
Rory D. Nelson The storyline for my book actually began almost five years ago. The first book I wrote in the series I ended up scrapping (at least for the time being). But that spark gave me the idea for the prequel and that’s what I’ve been writing ever since. The storyline continually flows from there. I have more than enough story to last me for the next ten years
Rory D. Nelson I don’t really need to be inspired to write. My series is always yearning for me to return to continue the story
Rory D. Nelson I’m w on book two in the series. It won’t be out until the end of October, but if I’m going to do a major launch, I’ll have to have it ready for print by June; so there’s a lot of work to do. It’s a bit overwhelming at times.
Rory D. Nelson My advice for aspiring writers is never give up, never stop writing and promoting. Know that pursuing a writing career requires persistence, hard work, marketing and honing your craft. Never stop learning. As much as I’d love to just write my series and avoid the marketing, that’s very unrealistic in today’s crowded marketplace.
Rory D. Nelson The best part about being a writer is being able to live out my fantasies in written format, being able to escape into this elaborate world. It’s a cathartic experience for me, so it is also very therapeutic and gives me something to look forward to-to create this mesmerizing world which has enthralled me for so long.
