Ranan Lachman The best thing about being a writer is your ability to amplify your idea, reach millions and create social impact through words. The old adage, the pen is mightier than the sword, is really true and provides the writer with great powers that can drive change in the lives of many.
Ranan Lachman My simplest advice is to not be afraid of the Nay sayers and just do it. There are millions of reason why you shouldn’t write a book: it takes an enormous amount of time and effort, you never know if it will be successful or even published, you don’t know if you’ll even be able to finish it or like the end-result. There is never the right time to write it, and if you ask 10 people what they think about the book concept before you write it, they’ll probably give you 15 reasons why it’s not going to work.
That said, there is a reason you are writing a book and you should listen to that internal voice and pursue it. My internal voice told me that even if there is only one person who will read my book and decide to adopt a good cause as his Living Purpose and will support it, I’ve achieve my goal to leave a positive footprint on society, so I followed my internal voice and published Purpose, how little things can create a meaningful life.
Ranan Lachman Since spreading the word about writing Purpose during the Kickstarter campaign, I received numerous questions from fellow executives in companies and other founders of startups regarding how the concepts of Purpose can be incorporated into their corporate culture. They wanted to see how they can integrate their idea of Purpose into their corporate values and hire purpose-driven talent. I’m currently working on a draft for a manuscript that will help entrepreneurs who are trying to change the world with ideas to achieve just that.
Ranan Lachman The interesting thing was that once I started writing, it all poured out, something that really surprised me as I was afraid of the famous writer’s block. I decided to drive every weekend early in the morning to a coffee shop on the beach in Capitola, close to where I live, and do most of the writing and some of the research from there. I usually stayed there until the evening as I was so consumed by the writing. The subject matter was so interesting and overwhelming that writing about it, coming up with the frameworks and identifying the case studies for the book was a truly exhilarating experience that inspired me to keep going.
Ranan Lachman The idea for the book came during a conversation around the bonfire. The five of us are friends since high school and have known each other for 25 years. While we took similar classes in school, we all diverted into different careers and geographical locations. As the night grew darker, our conversation deepened to the real issues that consumed us. We each had our families and were successful in our respective fields, but were struggling to find a meaning to our life. It can’t be that life is just sleeping, eating, working and watching TV! We all felt that there should be something else, deeper that will fill our life with meaning and will make us feel content, that’s when the idea to do the research and write the book came about and the concept of a “Living Purpose” came to life.
