The idea for Shrunk: Crime and Disorders of the Mind came about because of reader reaction to stories from Tough Crimes: True Cases by Top Canadian Criminal Lawyers. Durvile's 'True Cases' series, and the mandate for Durvile Publications for that matter, has evolved due to massive reader interest in the topic of demystifying the professions for professionals and the informed general public -- from criminal lawyers, to forensic experts, with many more subjects in mind.

My inspiration as a writer comes from my collaborators. I end up writing mostly introductions these days for books I publish and edit, plus of course all the marketing material. These tasks are a joy and flow so easily because the writers work so hard and the books are great!

I am currently finalizing Shrunk: Crime and Disorders of the Mind which true cases by forensic psychologists and psychiatrists (read my blog). Shrunk is Book 2 in the True Cases series after Tough Crimes: True Cases by Top Canadian Criminal Lawyers. Book 3 is due in 2017, still a top secret topic. I am launching a new imprint in Fall 2016 as well and the first title is "Stop Making Art and Die: A Survival Guide for Artists" by Rich Théroux.

As a publisher, my best advice for aspiring writers is to make a collection of submission guidelines from publishing companies in their field. These companies have undoubtedly researched their market and know what their readers want. By reading their mission statements and expectations, you will get a much better idea of what is marketable, because writing is much more than a solitary consolation.
