Jonathan Chase For my debut novel, I wanted to write a 19th century, romantic period piece.

I wrote with readers in mind; to offer them a great read, written in a manner which they, hopefully, would not want to put it down until finished. I also wanted to write it with self-imposed high standards that it would be movie-making worthy, should be so lucky for that to happen.
Jonathan Chase I first ask myself the question, "What should I write next?" A play? A musical? A piece of fiction? Then, I take it from there; narrowing down the subject matter, era, etc.

Foibles of history, current events and fictional relationships can provide a lot of writing material to capitalize upon.
Jonathan Chase Luckily and truthfully, I never had it on my projects. I'm sure it may come up in the future, as nobody is "block" proof.

I think writers block, is a self-imposed check that what your writing should naturally flow towards a different direction than you have already determined. Think about what route makes the most sense without being too predictable. Built in surprises make discovery for the reader a joy to behold.
Jonathan Chase The absolute joy of being your own boss and letting your imagination take you to places you've never dreamed of going when you first begin a project.

It's a long, winding, uphill and downhill road. Sometimes your successful and sometimes you're not. You just never know until you let time determine the answer.
Jonathan Chase If you are writing fiction, try to think of well-known authors whom you enjoyed reading the most. There is nothing wrong from learning how to write from those masters.

If you're constantly being rejected from publishing houses for your works, but believe they are truly worthy of merit, then publish them independently.
Jonathan Chase I'm in the final editing phase on my debut novel which will be published at the end of this month, March 2016. Stay tuned!
