Cactus. Cactus came up with the arranged marriage and Vincent, and Adela had been lurking around in my head for a while (though she was an alchemist and a lot taller at the time). When they came together things just clicked and the insanely complex plot for Bienvenue emerged from that. It's one of the reasons we don't spend a lot of time on their courtship. They have so, so much more to do.

Let the first draft be absolute shit. Don't try to nit pick little things or edit as you write. Just put it down on the page and be secure in the knowledge that whatever you put on the page, you can change before you show it to anyone. Also, if you want custom cover art, save up. Like really, really save up. And start looking now. Like right now, right now. Deviant art is a good place to start.

Bienvenue, of course, and some free literature for my blog. Cactus and I also have a few side stories going from the same universe as Bienvenue.

I first got started writing to "overcome" my dyslexia. (SPOILER ALERT: You don't overcome dyslexia. It's a permanent roommate you just have to learn to work around.) I first got started writing fiction because I couldn't find the sort of stories I wanted to read. The girls and women in fiction are largely either completely absent or frustratingly stupid.

Change things up. You can't get creative staring at a half finished sentence. Go for a walk, explore a new area of your neighborhood, listen to music, comb through Deviant Art, just do something different. It can feel really discouraging to leave something unfinished or to not reach a goal but sometimes you just need to step away and see the world beyond the blank page.
