Bree Verity I love Venetia and Damerel from the Georgette Heyer novel Venetia. She is just so practical and straight, and he is so volatile and wicked :-) The thing I love the most is that Venetia just accepts what he is like - and they don't have to change their personalities to be with each other (just a few slight behavioural adjustments ;-) )
Bree Verity When I started to write The Quiet One, I had written a historical novel, but I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it. So I went back to the basics, and to the piece of advice "Write what you know." I looked around me, and realised I'm quite familiar with this isolated, beautiful part of Western Australia. So I decided to write contemporary novels, set in my Perth - places I've been, stuff I've seen. So far, it seems to be working really well!
Bree Verity So long as there's a story to be told, I seem to be inspired. The problem isn't how I get inspired, it's how I manage to keep the inspiration under control!
Bree Verity I'm starting on the second novel in the Perth Girls series, which is Desiree's story. She is the 'not quite normal' one - goth, tatts, the works, but under it all, she is a caring, compassionate person. She has been so much fun to write so far - I can't wait to see what she gets up to!
Bree Verity Push every doubt that you have way, way down inside. You can do it. If you want to write a book, you can. If you want to be a professional author, you can, it just might take a while.
Bree Verity Definitely the freedom to walk around in other worlds and in other people's shoes. And then to have the freedom to break those worlds or shoes if you so wish.
Bree Verity Generally, if I have writer's block, it's when I'm sitting at the computer. So, I get off the computer, grab a notebook and a pen, and the words seem to come easier.
