"The Author" by CC Standish. An unknown author sat in his apartment clumsily typing away on his laptop--the usual theme of colossal failure and endless self-loathing--when there was a sudden and sharp knock at the door breaking his focus from the current work that sat before him, finished with the exception of an epic ending; staring him dead in the face like a haunting metaphor for his very own unresolved existence. Rising to his feet, annoyed by his own desperate search for a meaningful outcome, the author lurches towards the door and rips it open only to find no one there . . . with the exception of a self-addressed envelope containing a manuscript at his feet, with a postmark dated 5 years earlier, titled simply: Write Your Own Ending.

Hi Charity! Yes, I took a nice little hiatus after Ramp Rat. I've been slowly working on a new indie novel that will hopefully be released in the spring/summer with a new protagonist & more wild shenanigans. Ha! I actually cut my dreads on New Years Eve of last year, but my hair is slowly growing back out because I feel funny with short hair. Hope you're doing well! Cheers to 2019

The Customer Is Always Wrong stems from my experience as a teenager working those horrible, minimum wage, bottom of the barrel jobs. The funny thing is, after you've worked in fast food or retail and get a decent paying job, you realize the more you make, the less backbreaking the job tends to be! But those shitty service industry jobs build a lot of character and expose you to the dark side of our society; the power hungry manager, the overly dramatic customer who just won't let something go until they get their way. It's the first taste a lot of us have of this dog-eat-dog world.

Coffee helps! Honestly though, weekends inspire me the most. Just not being at work in general gives me inspiration to create. It's another one of life's balancing acts: you kill yourself for five days a week just to live the other two. It hardly seems fair, but one supports the other.

I'm excited to say that I'm currently working on the follow-up to The Customer Is Always Wrong - Ramp Rat. I've been pounding it out since shortly after The Customer was self-published back in January. The first draft is pretty much in the can... I just need to make some minor revisions and polish it up a bit, but all the same comedic fireworks are there that were in The Customer, plus it works as a stand alone, so hopefully it will get picked up and published this time around. *fingers crossed*

It's a cliché saying, but we all start somewhere. Even though I've been a poet and musician for years, I didn't tackle writing my first novel until I was well into my 30s. It's a big step and an even bigger commitment, but it's so rewarding. Live life and don't be afraid of the consequences or what other people will think. Just tell your story with reckless abandon and watch the seeds you plant turn into beautiful flowers.

Knowing I'm making my own little weird contribution to the literary world... and that with any luck, I'm inspiring some kind of an emotion in the reader, some kind of escape beyond the daily grind.

In my experience, there is no such thing as writer's block. The imagination is infinite! The possibilities are endless! If that still doesn't inspire something creative, then go buy a six-pack of beer & try again.
