I appreciate what you have written regarding smart notes. It gives voice to so many aspects of note taking that I support. I realize tools can foster an endless conversation but there are other free and modestly priced tools you may also want to consider. BibDesk is a very good free reference manager & "The Archive (http://zettelkasten.de/the-archive/) is a nice implementation of the Zettelkasten Method -20.00 USD)?

Sönke Ahrens You are right, James. There are more and more software solutions available, all with different advantages and for different needs. They are all far from perfect, though. I very much hope that in increasing interest in the Zettelkasten-method will lead to a healthy competition on new software (ideally free, open-source, platform independent and extremely simple).

HI Sönke, just watched your presentation at NEWCRAFTS Conferences. https://vimeo.com/275530205. Very informative. I've read your book and it lead me to Christian and Sascha's forum. Excited and thrilled at this new to me style of note-taking. You mentioned in the presentation that you were using a piece of software a college make to be used as a Zettelkasten. Is it available to the public?

It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it works for me and I am not aware of any other software which resembles Luhmann's system as close as this one. Having said that, I feel there is a lot of interesting tinkering going on at the moment and it's worth keeping an eye open for new solutions.

Hi Sonke, In the book "How to Take Smart Notes" isn't the word "more" missing at the top of page 37? "then there is no reason not to work as if nothing else counts "more" than writing. The beginning of the next paragraph also should contain the same word. "Working as if nothing else counts "more" than writing does..."
