I awoke with a sensation of pain stronger than any I had ever before but could not move, or open my eyes to see what terrible thing had befallen me. "Scalpel, please," said the man whom I recognized as the doctor scheduled to perform open-heart surgery on me.

I know it sounds egocentric, but I should rather like to travel to the world in my own novel. I would love to experience the world I have created in my mind—even though it's terrifying.

While on a walk through one of Issaquah, Washington's beautiful forests. I was walking down a wide trail and it was in the middle of summer and very picturesque. I took a photo of a particular spot I liked. Later on I looked at the photo and imagined it at nighttime; this made it feel spooky to me, so I went in to Photoshop (I'm a Graphic Designer by trade) and changed it to night. Sure enough, it was eerie. Then I thought, 'I could write a book about this.' I have always wanted to write a book about aliens and I thought a pair of fresh alien-eyes peering in the heavens of that photo would look great. It ended up being the cover for part one of my book, 'The Awareness.'
