Holly Walrath My favorite thing about being a writer is when I get to connect with someone who has read my work and found something that spoke to them. Often it's something unexpected, something I never would have seen in my work. I think literature is interpretable for a reason, so that readers can find meaning that might help them in some way.
Holly Walrath Developing a daily practice of writing can be helpful. When you start to understand that writing is a practice, not a chore, you automatically begin to come to that place of writing each day. It helps to be consistent, but all writers are different. Finding what works for you and sticking to it is more important than following the age-old advice of "write every day."
Holly Walrath When I sit down to write, the first thing I do is reach for a good book. Reading can be a wonderful inspiration for writers, as it helps me learn the structures, style, voice, and techniques of others.
