When you start to understand that writing is a practice, not a chore, you automatically begin to come to that place of writing each day. It helps to be consistent, but all writers are different. Finding what works for you and sticking to it is more important than following the age-old advice of "write every day." (less)

Often it's something unexpected, something I never would have seen in my work. I think literature is interpretable for a reason, so that readers can find meaning that might help them in some way.(less)

Ophelia and the Marvelous Boy by Karen Foxlee
"Delightfully original story about a girl battling the Snow Queen and Spanish conquistadors in a museum, though "A Most Magical Girl" is still my favourite of her books. "
Draekora by Lynette Noni
"Oh. My. Goodness. These books just keep getting better! And its not just the dizzying adventures or the enchanting landscape or the delightful characters, its the depth of her characters and their relationships that makes Noni's book so great. And..." Read more of this review »

"A near-perfect novel. Stunning worldbuilding, memorable characters with complex morals and motivations, and a fast-paced and intricate plot that will keep me reading and rereading it for a long time to come. Schwab's prose is absolutely scrumptiou..." Read more of this review »

“Each day Marda gets closer. The sub circles coral reefs off the coasts, where mermaids are said to like the colors of the schools of fishes, and train them to swim around their necks like jewelry or live behind their ears, beneath their long hair. Sometimes mermaids like shallow places, but mostly they like the dark and the beautiful, uncharted, abandoned, soulless parts of the undiscovered world.”
Holly Walrath, Pulp Literature Summer 2015: Issue 7

“You were always a smart and fierce child, but you were also half here, half there. Their world was never that far from you.”
Holly Walrath, Fireside Magazine Issue 52

“But he goes all quiet. His ghost eyes roll / up in his head, white-on-white-on-white, / and he runs his shaking hands over his scars, / looks up like he’s going to wish on a / star.”

“We live in a world of unfulfilled fairytales.”
