Take feedback. That doesn't mean you should listen to every single piece of criticism you ever receive, but at least meditate on it for a minute. If you can't make sense of it, reach out to someone else and ask their honest opinion. Your readers can often articulate what's "off" about your writing, even if they don't have formal training in editing or literature. (Of course, you can never replace the help of a good editor, but listen to your beta-readers and friends if they have something to say!)

My current ongoing project is Maywitch, a web novel that I'm serializing on my blog. It's urban fantasy with lots of queer lady characters.
I'm also finishing up Chasing Falling Stars, the next book of the Quicksand series. (Currently looking for beta readers!)
I'm currently outlining a spin-off/quasi-sequel to the Quicksand series; it'll be set in the same universe, but probably 6-8 years in the future. It'll be a little more dystopian than Quicksand, I think. I'm going to make an effort to include some of the characters from Quicksand, especially Plutonia. (6-8 years in the future would put her post-college, and in a perfect position to show up somewhere and do something awesome! I'm so excited to possibly extend her character arc!)

Rising From the Sand, the first book in the Quicksand series, came from my experiences at my hectic, bizarre day job (which I can't tell you about.) All of the weird internal politics of the Protectorate, including their relationship with the Tioria Police Force, are inspired by my own workplace. Laris is almost a clone of one of my colleagues. I've always taken a heavy interest in radical activism, and make an effort to study causes I don't even agree with, just to see what they're doing and how they're accomplishing it. Some of the "bad guys" throughout Quicksand are based on the kind of irrational, desperate, do-whatever-you-can-to-slow-down-the-enemy mentality you sometimes see in truly extremist groups.
The setting, though, was definitely influenced by the Trigun anime. Not even gonna try to make it sound more sophisticated than it is.
