Bradford Bates Being able to set my own hours, and to work at my own pace. I set goals and make sure that I meet them, but overall it's very relaxing compared to the corporate grind I was doing before. Making up stories for a living is just darn cool.
Bradford Bates I normally sit down and watch some tv or a good movie. When that doesn't work. I read an extra book or two. I'm always reading but for the most part daily life gives me a huge amount of inspiration. I find that having ideas isn't the problem, it's focusing them into a tangible plot line.
Bradford Bates I'd have to go with Chris and Tayna from John Conroe's Demon Accords Series. I've had fun watching them grow across the series, they are a great couple.
Bradford Bates Right now I'm working on Ascendancy The Rising Darkness. The ideas for my books are pulled from many sources, not least of which is my crazy and sometimes off-kilter imagination. I see things throughout the day and think, about what kind of twist could I put on this to make a story out of it. It's just something I was born with. I've always been a dreamer, now I just write them down for a living.
Bradford Bates The first thing you want to do is just get started. Your first book may not be your best, or even very good, but if you never finish it, you can't move forward. Get in the habit of starting and finishing your books. Once you are doing that you can start to work on polishing your craft and making each book better than the last.

There is a lot to learn in this business. Don't get discouraged, take your time, and stay positive. Just like every other business the harder you work, the more you get out of it.
Bradford Bates I find the inspiration to write everywhere. When I interact with other people or watch tv, and movies. Most of all I get it from reading other books. I love to read! Sometimes I think well what if this happened or what if the book ended like this instead. Then I started to wonder what would it be like to create my own world, to tell my own stories. I have always been a daydreamer, now it is just about finding a way to put those dreams down on paper.
Bradford Bates Quick Update: Genetic Purge is currently half way done. I'm expecting an early March release.
