S.D. Thames I find that establishing a daily routine is the surest way for me to get words on the page every day. Reading Ross Macdonald also inspires me to write.
S.D. Thames Right now I'm focused on finishing the first revised draft of A Mighty Fortress, the first installment in a mystery series I'm starting. I'm also doing research and outlining for the second book in that series as well as a follow-up to Foreclosure.
S.D. Thames Having an outlet for expression and exploring human nature.
S.D. Thames To borrow Nike's slogan, just do it. Just write. But accept the fact that the first draft is going to stink. Resist the urge to revise as you write. S.D. Thames I make myself write. I find that writer's block, at least for myself, is usually caused by a lack of confidence in what I'm writing. When I feel stuck, I just keep going. I'll skip over the scene that I'm struggling with and start the next one or I'll work on something entirely different. I wrote the Vargas Deposition when I was struggling with revising the third act of Foreclosure. Having finished that story, I felt refreshed and had a better perspective on the novel.
