I have lots of favorite couples, but in this place, in this moment, I love Ross and Demelza Poldark from the Poldark series. Winston Graham draws a finely tuned picture of a couple who love each other--but without the overly optimistic, fairy-tale, or the tragic, Romeo and Juliet themes that many authors like to put into relationships. They are, simply, two people who care enough to put energy and effort into each other and the entity/being that is them as a couple. It's not always easy, and they have ups and downs, but you could believe they are real people facing real questions and real life. Despite the "realism", it isn't negative or depressing. There is a basic love of life and people in Winston Graham's writings that is a joy to experience when you read the books.

Persist and follow your heart. It's easy when everything is going great and things seem to be moving forward, but there are always ups and downs, faster and slower periods. Persist even when you feel crazy for persisting and wondering if you should give up. Always write what YOU want to write. A good editor will come in and polish it to its best shine, but the message and the overall story are yours.

Book 2 is in editing and I'm working on book 7 and 8. For some reason, those two seem to be writing themselves simultaneously. It will be interesting to see what those two end up being; they are almost mirror images of each other, which is a huge challenge to write!

Meditation and nature inspire me. Conversations with friends who love to play help, too. Sometimes a really good book or television show with lots of imagination and character development will really get the creative surge going, as well.

What I see in feel in life, I then start asking questions about what else is possible? What might my characters find challenging? How might a character feel about this, or that? The stories flow from the background I have already created and the magic of what else is possible.

Getting to play in other worlds and with all kinds of fun possibilities. I absolutely love tapping into imagination and ideas (the Muse?) It's like the best chocolate and Christmas morning all wrapped into one!

Go outside, explore nature, meditate. Take some time to breathe. That always brings the creativity and connection roaring back that opens the doors to ideas. From ideas comes stories.
