Prayer, reading scripture, reading my favorite authors such as H.A. Ironside. I find that if I pray and then begin to type, begin to type almost anything at all, even if it's terribly weak, the writer's block usually evaporates.

Flexibility. (Also the worst thing. Everybody thinks you're always available--for everything!)

Pray for wisdom and God's leading, regularly. Books that have helped me the most are Roy Peter Clark's "Writing Tools: 50 Essential Strategies." Also Orson Scott Card's "Characters and Viewpoint."

I'm currently working on Kent Brown's biography. He's a photographer who shot pictures of Bobby Kennedy the day he was assassinated. His life story is a little like Forest Gump's with a dash of James Bond thrown in. If you're interested, I'm adding a chapter or two each week on my blog, GodRunning.com. Just click on the menu item: "An Improbable Life Story."

I pray. I read scripture. I pray some more.

I was working as a Battalion Chief for a fire department and doing reasonably well when my health took a turn for the worse. I had zero energy to do what's required of a leader. So I desperately dug for information, for anything and everything that might help me to do the job of leading the firefighters I was responsible for. The book is an accumulation of what I learned, in the form of a parable.
