E.S. Martell The dog was locked in the bedroom. He could hear the cat scratching the sofa in the living room.
E.S. Martell Mastodonia (Clifford Simak). I'd spend about a year just enjoying the solitude.
E.S. Martell I'm currently in the throes of writing my next science fiction novel; a story about an opiate-addicted heroine who must deal with a rogue AI that may shortly pose a threat to humans. The reading I'm doing is almost all research on the potential threat of Artificial Intelligence (most notably Nick Bostrom's "Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies". I've also spent a few minutes writing some short stories featuring various aspects of AI that have been picked up in a series of anthologies. Reading for fun -- meh, not so much right now.
E.S. Martell If you're blocked, the story is not compelling enough. If it's really flowing, it will dictate itself to you. Perhaps a good step would be to take a break while you write something else. Alternately, go back, edit what you have, make any changes that jump out at you and then you'll be more ready to continue from where you were blocked.
E.S. Martell The feeling of satisfaction you get when you put the final word of a story on the page.
E.S. Martell Start writing and start reading stories in your chosen genre. Also, read how-to books about writing. Who knows, you might get some good ideas from them.
E.S. Martell "Confederation" the 3rd story in the Gaea Ascendant series.
E.S. Martell The act of writing inspires writing. Once I get an idea, all I have to do is to get started on the keyboard and things just flow from there. Often characters tell me what they are going to do. It's a good sign when they develop their own personalities and preferences.
E.S. Martell It's a logical extension of the story line from book 1, The Time of The Cat. I'm currently working on the 3rd book in the series, which again follows logically (in my admittedly twisted mind) from the story in the 2nd book.
