Edward J. Nield Writing is not a 9 to 5, five day a week job. Sometimes I wish it was! But writers' blog is something we all have to deal with at some point. Accept it calmly when you don't have the ideas or energy to write. Do not sit there in front of your laptop - instead do something completely different. Go for a walk in the park, or a run if you really need to get those endorphins going! - fresh air really does help; or listen to your favourite music; see a friend; to to a museum; cook something nice...
Edward J. Nield The excitement and reward as you breathe life into the characters of your book, seeing them take shape more vividly with each edit that you do.
Edward J. Nield I think if you have that vivid imagination and passion to write - then you must do it. It is a gift. While it is true that there are many, many aspiring authors out there yearning for their work to become famous, and not all of us may find that top publisher and earn those millions, the most important thing is to create and complete something that for you is so special and meaningful - and to then have it read and enjoyed by the people closest to you. And then if they love it, they will tell their friends and colleagues, and then, who knows... But above all, do it because you love it.
Edward J. Nield I am currently working on a sequel, about the forgotten son of Helen of Sparta.
Edward J. Nield I have loved Greece ever since I went on a family holiday to Rhodes and Naxos as a child. The country is steeped in so much history and the people are generous, emotional and passionate about life. Following a trip around Greece aged 18, I decided to write a novel about the Trojan War. Whilst studying History at Exeter University, I started writing Trojan Tales. There have been several stops and starts along the way; however I knew that Andromache's vivid and moving tale was one that I had to complete and get out there.
Edward J. Nield I enjoyed reading Roger Lancelyn Green's books about the Greek myths and Trojan War as a child. As a student, I really enjoyed the Iliad and Odyssey, and also plays by Sophocles and Euripides. Yet I could not find a novel that really, for me, conjured up the colours and vitality of the ancient Mycenaean World. I was fascinated by what happened after the Trojan War and why Greece fell so quickly into a Dark Age. Therefore, I decided to write a novel about Andromache, wife of Hector, who survived the war and was taken as a slave woman to Greece by the son of Achilles, and to try to answer some of these unsolved questions.
