For me it's the eternal question, "What if?" For instance, Saving the Dead: What if every dead person rose into a ravenous zombie? What would that mean for ambulance crews, whose job it was to save lives?

Creating something from the ether. There is nothing better than that giddy feeling of the first few pages into an adventure. I have no idea where it is going, but I sure do enjoy the journey.

Just write. Everyday put the pen to the page, fingers to the keys, and create. Don't worry if what you have is good enough, or even coherrent. What you worry about is finishing your story. That is when you go back and make your manuscript pretty enough to show to the world.

The way I experience writer's block is that the story I'm working on loses its momentum. The words begin to feel forced, and I have to climb up the tree of inspiration to pluck them out of the ether. When this happens I realize (usually after a long walk) that my tale has taken a wrong turn.
At which point I go back to the place where it felt right and approach the story at a new angle. Wash, rince, reapeat, until it comes out clean.
