Chris Conrad Whichever one I'm writing at the time. ;) Because I'm spending a lot of time with them. Anyone who's on your mind that much by choice has to be someone you like. If not, you can always change them. Or just delete them. Of course, the law frowns on that in real life, but in fiction it might just be the plot twist you need.
Chris Conrad Work. Writing's a matter of rewriting, editing, proofreading, etc. There's always something you can do till the ideas start flowing again. Use that time productively.
Chris Conrad The satisfaction of finishing something you know is good.
Chris Conrad As a Christian author, I'd say seek God before you write. Otherwise just don't give up. Write what you like and don't be afraid to scrap it and start over.
Chris Conrad Call Me Mystery (The Fisheye Files, Book 2). The books are stand alone stories, meaning this is a whole new set of characters, except of course for Fisheye (You'll have to read them to find out who that is). Book 1, Twisted Leaves, is a whodunit. Book 2 is basically a ghost story but still a mystery.
Chris Conrad Sometimes reading or watching TV. Sometimes it just comes from nowhere. More often than not it's just the process of writing that builds on itself. One idea leads to another.
Chris Conrad Twisted Leaves is set in a real location, Sequoyah's Cabin historical site in Sequoyah County, Oklahoma where I live. With no story idea to begin with I simply spent a day walking the site making notes and taking pictures. The layout of the park itself and historical info gave me everything needed to formulate a story. First I decided to come up with something that seemed impossible, sort of a classic locked room scenario. Then I treated it like a magic trick. Since even I didn't know how it could be done, I worked through it step by step through the characters until the mystery was solved.
