Chris Solaas Heh. Bet my wife could answer that. I spent years crafting a magical world called Lynvia, complete with its own government, language, written alphabet, national anthem, and a millennia-long history. I visit there far too often, especially as that series comes to a close, and a new series in that country unfolds.

What I do there is converse with wise dragons like Kass, learn to wield a sword with Greybeard, and travel on adventures with a group of super-powered kids who go up against goblins and golems, Xarnans and evil fairies.
Chris Solaas You are so welcome! i remember that book. Tragic stories like that always hit me, but her attitude even through the decline in her life was an encouragement for all of us, for we all do go through some trial in life, whether big or small. And isn't that what life is all about? Living a story to give Him glory!
Chris Solaas Most of what i read these days are Indie-published books, and i gravitate towards Sci-Fi and Fantasy, or Christian Helps, just because that's what i like. But the reason for this is that I Review indie books on my blog, Christian Indie Book Reviews.

I have quite a few books reviewed there, but my output has slowed in the Review department, as much of my energy these past months has been devoted to writing and marrying off my daughter. :-)
Chris Solaas Blessing the reader with a well-written work, that perhaps helped them deal with a burden, or just walk this path of life.
Chris Solaas Give it to God first. He'll give it back if He has called you to write it.

Don't be afraid to write.
Don't quit your day job. Certainly few make it as their vocation. But many make it their avocation, and some move into it as their primary source of income when sales support it.

When drafting, do NOT edit. Write whatever comes to you to write, and get the story completed.
Come back and edit. Clean it up, develop your characters, flesh out your scenes. Imagine it's a movie and you are watching the action. Cut out anything that doesn't add to the plot and flow, or jars the reader out of the 'movie'.

Leave questions unanswered! Your readers want to use their imagination, leave something to it. Remember that many things 'GWS' - Go Without Saying...

Do not publish (if you are self-publishing) until your book is something you would enjoy reading if you paid for it. Your readers eventually would be paying for it, don't make them regret their purchase.
Chris Solaas Several projects, actually. I'm working on final edits to Book 3 in my Prince of Lynvia Series (Of Pretty Plots and Princesses).

I'm also writing a first draft of a third book in a Science Fiction series, which will come to light once the fantasy series in Lynvia is complete.
Chris Solaas Actually, quite often it's during a morning devotion or listening to a bible message.
Also, I love to go to a public place and watch people, and imagine they are characters in a novel.
Chris Solaas While the idea for my first book, Of Secrets and Sorcery, came from a recurring dream, this sequel, Of Mobsters and Magic, flowed naturally out of the ending of the first book, combined with a love of Robert Asprin's exciting and hilarious Another Fine Myth.

The basic life lesson I tried to convey in this sequel was that we should offer help when it's in our power to give it. Proverbs 3:27
