I think fate is the greatest mystery in everyone's life. Why do something's happen and others don't? Why are we lucky or unlucky? I think stories have always been a way to examine these questions from a safe distance. The great thing about being a mystery writer is I get to be the hand of fate (cue diabolical laughter).

I've always wanted to do a mystery series. I spent most of my early years reading mysteries. Also, I'm fascinated by true crime stories and have spent a lot of time around law enforcement officers. Mysteries seemed a very natural fit, and I wanted to write something that focused on the area of north Florida where I live. I hope anyone who is interested will check out my blog posts where I tell a little bit about the animals in my life that have inspired the supporting cast of critters in the Larry Macklin books.

I'm not sure that I need to be inspired in order to write. I'm always dreaming up characters and plots in my head. I'm the proverbial daydreamer. A better question might be how do I get inspired to think about anything else but my imaginary worlds.

The best thing about being a writer is being able to use my creativity to bring characters to life and build worlds for them to live in. Also, my wife and I have a farm and being able to mix working outdoors and writing is great.

I'm continuing to write books in the Larry Macklin Series. I plan on at least twelve. I'm also working on a new series that will be a post-apocalyptic tale which will be very character driven.
