Much of the setting and events in the novel comes from my experiences owning and showing horses for a few decades, but the core of the story--the struggles of a teen on the brink of adulthood--well, that's just something we all grapple with at one time or another. The painful experiences in Cory Iverson's life, however, are made more acute owing to her lack of self-confidence and escalating family problems surrounding her.
