The idea for "Moon High" came from a dream I had in which I was on a shuttle about to launch to a school on the moon. Then, as dreams often do, it suddenly switched and I was watching others launch. When I woke up, I thought, "Oh, that would make an interesting story." As reality set in, I then thought it was the most ridiculous idea ever! But, for some reason the idea stayed with me. As I thought about it more, ideas started to flow on what the school would be like. I realized I could create a world where there were very few boundaries technologically. I had immense amounts of fun creating the Holodome, Holopod, and other 4D platforms.

Inspiration comes from so many places. "Moon High" came from a dream! As did my children's book "Three Carrots and A Pea Coat". Sometimes, I'm inspired by creatures I meet outside - frogs, rabbits, ducks. Articles, photographs, or even a wish, can be the springboard for an entire story.

I have just launched "Moon High", a young adult science fiction mystery. At the moment, I'm working on promoting the book, but I have two book ideas in the wings. One is fully brainstormed and ready to write. It is also a science fiction mystery adventure. The other, set in Paris, needs more time in development. It is, at this point, a middle grade mystery.

My advice for aspiring writers is to write what makes you happy. Don't worry about being "great". Just enjoy the process. Once you're in the creative routine of writing and want to improve your craft, there are many books to help guide you in developing characters and plot. One that has been very helpful for me is "The Breakout Novelist" by Donald Maass.
I once said I wanted to be an artist, and my friend asked, "Do you paint?" I said, "Yes, of course." He said, "Then, you are an artist."
Pursue what you are passionate about.

The best thing about being a writer is the freedom to create new worlds and characters.

To get rid of writer's block I go for a walk. Thinking about the characters away from the computer helps me to sort out their motivations and actions.
