Ann H. Gabhart grew up on a farm in Kentucky. At the age of ten, she started dreaming of being a writer. That dream has come true as she's published over forty novels. She and her husband have three children married to three beautiful in-law children who have gifted her nine grandchildren. She still lives on a farm not far from where she grew up. She loves visiting with family, walking her dog, reading, and, of course, writing.
She has a variety of historical fiction from stories about the Shakers that once had villages in Kentucky to stories inspired by her small town and her mother's memories to those set in the Appalachian region of Kentucky. She enjoys sharing the lovely areas and history of her home state of Kentucky. And if you like m

Book Talk Questions

Not long ago, I did a talk at the LaRue County Public Library. I’d never been there before, but a friend, actually a cousin a few times removed as people say, lives there and got the library events person to invite me. I was pleased that some people were there to hear me talk about books. Then I was excited because none of them had heard me speak before.

Yay, I had fresh ears. I could t

“The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.”
Michelangelo Buonarroti

“...Until they stood at last by a crumbling wall, looking up and up and still farther up at the great tombyard top of the old house. For that's what it seemed. The high mountain peak of the mansion was littered with what looked like black bones or iron rods, and enough chimneys to choke out smoke signals from three dozen fires on sooty hearths hidden far below in dim bowels of this monster place. With so many chimneys, the roof seemed a vast cemetery, each chimney signifying the burial place of some old god of fire or enchantress of steam, smoke, and firefly spark. even as they watched, a kind of bleak exhalation of soot breathed up out of some four dozen flues, darkening the sky still more, and putting out some few stars.”
Ray Bradbury, The Halloween Tree

“Laughter is a sunbeam of the soul.”
Thomas Mann, The Magic Mountain

Thanks so much, Carole. Those were nice words to hear from you. I really enjoyed my Hollyhill characters and I'm so happy that Revell Books is re-issuing Scent of Lilacs with a new cover. Hoping other readers will discover it the way you did and get to know Jocie and friends. If you liked that book, you might like Angel Sister if you haven't read it yet.

Carole Jarvis Thanks for friending me, Ann.

I became a fan of your writing several years ago when I read The Scent of Lilacs. One of my favorite sources of book recommendations is CBD's "new & recommended" page, which is where I discovered your book. The Scent of Lilacs had a style and character depth beyond anything I had found in the Christian market, and it remains one of my very favorites.

Janie R. Thanks for adding me as your friend! I am enjoying the 1st book of your Shaker series-The Outsider.

Ashlyn Thank-you for the friendship!
Have a wonderful Day!
