| Von Hippel’s central idea is that humanity’s biggest evolutionary advantage wasn’t just intelligence—it was our ability to become intensely social. When early humans left the safety of the rainforest and moved onto the African savannah, survival sudd ...more | |

Few novels feel as clinically cold and strangely hypnotic as Crash by J. G. Ballard. Reading it is less like following a story and more like drifting through an autopsy of modernity. Ballard strips away the sentimental language we usually attach to te ...more |

“The desert sun vanished behind the Ghar.
We sat near each other, eyes trained
scanning-
Left to right, right to left... over our
arcs;
Neither of US spoke, both our fingers ready
on the trigger- beyond sight a mortar
detonated
where aimed.
One of theirs. On target, or not;
We couldn't tell.
Anxious for morning.
The rising sun, the Arabic prayer”

“The books are to remind us what asses and fool we are. They’re Caeser’s praetorian guard, whispering as the parade roars down the avenue, “Remember, Caeser, thou art mortal.” Most of us can’t rush around, talking to everyone, know all the cities of the world, we haven’t time, money or that many friends. The things you’re looking for, Montag, are in the world, but the only way the average chap will ever see ninety-nine per cent of them is in a book. Don’t ask for guarantees. And don’t look to be saved in any one thing, person, machine, or library. Do your own bit of saving, and if you drown, at least die knowing you were headed for shore.”

“Don’t walk in front of me… I may not follow
Don’t walk behind me… I may not lead
Walk beside me… just be my friend”

Thanks for sending FR, not sure we'll have much reading overlap but 100% agree with the sentiment at the end of your bio.I may have to get my dad a copy of your "After I turn into Alcohol" as he also uses poetry and prose to process, albeit not on an internationally published level 🤗
Kudos to you and i hope many will be inspired by your works 👍🏼
