I'm Dustin from Colorful Colorado! I started this group because the moderator of the Dean Koontz group I was participating in, has disappeared.

Hi, & for those that don`t know me, my name is Martin, & I`m from Ireland. I have read only a small fraction of Koontz`s novels, but I`m quickly becoming a fan!

Matt here checking in from New York. I have been a Koontz fan for several years and look forward to reading more of his books.

Rachel, you are too funny! Well, we're reading Watchers in January so it's a good place for people to start. I also plan to nominate Lightning for February.

I never thought about Dean's hair, but now that you mention it - you're right. I bet it's hair transplants. I don't think he'd settle for a toupee :-)

I can only read so much Koontz before it starts affecting me in ways I'm not even aware of :-)

I'm actually not a big Odd Thomas fan like most Koontz fans are. My favorite of that series is Brother Odd. You might not want to reserve ALL of Koontz's books because that's a whole lot of books :-) and in my opinion not all Koontz books are equal in quality.

Have you read Cold Fire (published in the early 90's)? Cold Fire is one of my favorites. I also really enjoyed Relentless, published this past summer - it was really fun :-) I recommend that you skip Your Heart Belongs to Me (2008).

Thanks for joining Lesley! Dean Koontz is my favorite author but I didn't start reading his books until 2004 when I read Watchers. My second Koontz book was Velocity which was at that time a new release.

Our Monthly Group Reads are a great way to start reading Koontz. I'm sure everyone will be happy to share their favorites and recommendations too :-)

FYI: All group members are able to add polls, start new discussion threads, or add a Koontz event. Only moderators can add books to the bookshelf - we are going to feature the books we read as a group there. Martin started the Group Read program in the old Dean Koontz group. October was our first group read - Frankenstein Prodigal Son, November was False Memory and December was Breathless.

Please make yourself at home, feel free to start a new discussion topic or add a poll. Several discussion folders have been created - if you have an idea for a new folder or any idea to make the group better just write a post in the Suggestion Box thread.

Another one of my favorites is Life Expectancy.

I'm new to this group. I'm spread rather thin so I don't know how much I'll participate. I've read quite a bit of Dean's stuff and I find he has a certain eloquence.

When I'm not printing books (yes, I'm a printer), I read my fare share and I also write. I've had a few short fiction pieces published and I maintain a flash fiction blog on wordpress called Flashtold. There's a link on my profile. I've written two novel length manuscripts which remain unpublished.

If I were asked to name a favorite Koontz story, I'm not sure I could. I liked what he did with Frankenstein, but I only read the first one. I have enjoyed the Odd series, but I think that one has pretty much run its course. I listened to Life Expectancy while doing yard work and I worry my neighbors might think I've lost a few marbles because I was out there, laughing at nothing in particular (from their perspective). Punchinello Beezo: "I could have been an aerialist." Do Life Expectancy as an audiobook, the narration is a hoot.

There are so many Koontz novels to consider. The one thing I wish he'd do is write one without a dog in it. The last, like, ten anyway have had dogs in them and it's getting old. Knowaddamean?

Welcome Donald! :-) we'll be happy to see you whenever you grace us with your presence. Koontz is still planning on 3 more Odd books so HE clearly doesn't think it's run it's course. He's included dogs in every novel since he got Trixie hasn't he? There are several books without dogs featured as main characters though. Anyway I know what ya mean :-) I also enjoyed the audio of Life Expectancy.

I am a huge Dean Koontz fan. I think his were the first "adult" books I read as I was growing up. My favorites are Watchers and From the Corner of His Eye.
Have any of you ever checked out his podcast on Itunes? It's called The Dean Koontz podcast and he gives a good explanation of his hair situation in one called "a high pain threshold" (I'm pretty sure it was that one). Anyway, some of the stories he tells in his podcasts are pretty funny.

Actually Rachel :-) the Frankenstein series ain't over afterall. Check out my post - "Lost Souls" discussion topic in the Frankenstein Series folder. The next Frankenstein book called "Lost Souls" is scheduled to be published in June 2010 and will apparently continue the story of Erika and Jocko.

I'd also like to re-read From the Corner of His Eye even though it's one of Koontz's longer ones and usually about 400 pages is plenty of book for me :-)

The explanation of the hair was that he wanted to get a hair transplant but was putting it off because he knew it was supposed to be quite painful. Then he found out he needed to have tissue from the roof of his mouth grafted onto his gums, because he was brushing too hard, so he figured he'd get all the pain out of the way at once.

Welcome Maciek! I've lost count of how many Koontz books I have read but I actually didn't start reading his books until 2004. My wife and cousin encouraged me to try Koontz and I'm glad I finally listened to them. Just to clarify to everyone, I'm not a Koontz expert :-) Just a big fan! Watchers was the first book I read. Now I read every new Koontz title I can find.

Yes, We certainly do :-) Breathless was already chosen as a group read in December. We are break-off rebel group from an old Dean Koontz group on goodreads where there wasn't an active moderator to organize the discussions and group reads. You can still comment in the Breathless discussion anytime here but this group has only been set up for one week so there aren't a lot of comments yet. Our group read for January is Watchers. We will begin nominating/voting for February's group read on January 1st - I hope you'll join us :-) Our group read program started in October. We read Frankenstein, Prodigal Son in Oct and False Memory in Nov.

Hi, everyone. I've just joined after being invited by Dustin when he saw that I had reviewed Breathless. Although I haven't read all of Koontz's books, I've enjoyed most of those that I have read and especially like the amazing dogs. I loved A Big Little Life.

I'm from Colorful Colorado, too. This group looks fun and I am going to enjoy being part of it.

I like your way of thinking! :-) Feel free to make yourself at home by commenting on discussions, starting new discussions and participating in the group reads.

Group members can also put questions to a group using polls. There are no polls up yet, so if anyone does create a poll please invite group members through the link provided on the poll or mention that you created a poll in a discussion.

For example: A friend or family member gave you a box of Dean Koontz books but you don't know which one to start with. You could list all the titles on a poll and ask group members to vote for which title they recommend.

Anyway, polls can be a fun way to ask a question to the whole group so feel free to use them :-)

There are still some Koontz books I haven't read so I'm looking forward to updating my list. I stated in one review that my allegiance is more to Koonzt's characters than his story lines but he is certainly one of my favorite authors.

Hello! Name's Hanzle... I am a girl. ;] Al, who has just recently introduced herself, is my sister. I absolutely adore Dean Koontz books! Every time I finish one of his books, I say, "That one was definitely my favorite!" but I really have no idea which one is truly number one. I am currently reading Life Expectancy which is terribly brilliant so far. I am definitely an obsessed reader and fan of these books... it almost scares me... ;]

Hanzle and Al ... you two are really confusing me ;-)
