I would really love it if you list, for my benefit, your top 10 NON-ODD THOMAS books of Dean Koontz. It would help me a lot. I personally think that Koontz is far better than thriller writers and I put him (at the time of asking) on par with Stephen King.

Shirley Hartman-Rozee My top Dean Koontz favourites are:
1. Watchers
2. Fear Nothing
3. Seize the Night
4 Strangers
5. Lightning
6. Taken
7. Innocence
8. One Door Away from Heaven
9. Dragon Tears
10 The City
Honourable Mention: The Bad Place, Devoted
I like his later books—after 1975–much more than any of his early work.

Shirley Hartman-Rozee One of the reasons why I like Dean Koontz more than any other author is that he never leaves you hanging. He ties up all loose ends and the ending is usually good or at least satisfying. Another reason is his beautiful prose, vivid imagery, amazing descriptive writing style. And he always throws in a few words that make me look for a dictionary. To top it all off, he can make me giggle out loud; his humour is off the wall, which I love.

Thank you for the posts. I read The Good Guy just before joining Goodreads. It was a 4 star book for me.

The reason why I did not pursue my interest in the author is because I personally require a small twist every 5 pages (it can be anything) in my books... and Koontz books were too long in my eyes, to fulfill that requirement.

But I really want to try his work because I now realise that his ideas are very rare. Have a nice Sunday and happy reading to you and everyone :)

Cal Hello from the Panhandle of Florida! I've read several of Koontz books and for the most part have really enjoyed them. I just finished "AFTER DEATH" and I really like it.

I use to be an avid daily reader but haven't read any books in the last few years. Now with my new Kindle Paperwhite, I'm re-motivated and getting back into reading everyday! Feel free to add me as a friend. I'm new to goodreads and would like to get a good quality friend list going!

Heather Hello from Ohio!

I've read Kootnz for 20 years, and he is one of my favorite authors. I have to say I liked Odd Thomas best. I am a sucker for eccentric, kind, or quirky characters. I am also a sucker for adventure, mystery, a sense of awe, with some spooky/scary thrown in, and good versus evil. There is something about Kootnz and his writing that just, soothes the soul in troubled times, ya know?

I just pasted your list in to my to read list. I. have probably read all of these before because my mom was a big Koontz fan and I remember reading some when I was quite young. She had them all so I read them all, up until about Odd Thomas, not one of my faves. Warriors is my favorite also, but I don't remember some of these by name. So I will try your list to choose rereads

Benjamin Weirich Hi Everyone. I’m Ben from Massachusetts. I think my first Koontz book was Seize The Night. I’ve started reading him regularly the past few years and I started at the very beginning. I’m currently reading Shattered and he’s turned into the writer we expect: less and less of sci-fi and more of the suspense/thriller.

Barbara Hi Ben. Welcome to the group!! You have an amazing adventure ahead of you cause his books just keep getting better😀💜

Kevin Joseph Greetings from Virginia. I'm Kevin Joseph, a devoted Koontz reader since the day I picked Odd Thomas off a bookstore table and got hooked on page one by its quirky narrator. I'm a thriller writer myself, and reading DK has challenged me to improve my craft in so many ways. Beyond the Odd Thomas books, some favorites include the Jane Hawk series, Intensity, and The Good Guy, though I've enjoyed most everything he's written.

Vonda Kevin Joseph the Frankenstein series is high on my list of best

message 1666: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Joseph Thanks for the recommendation, Vonda. That's one of the few things DK has written that I have yet to read.

Vonda Kevin Joseph. And I am ready for the joyful re read. that good it is

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl Welcome to Koontzland Kevin Joseph!
I have been reading less Dean Koontz in recent years than I used to. Been branching out into other authors, which I don't necessarily think is a bad thing.
There are several older Koontz titles that I am drawn to re-reading. A few include: Lightning, Cold Fire, Hideaway, Life Expectancy, False Memory
Friend of the Family releases in two days. I always hold out hope that I'll live the next Dean Koontz, but recent
releases haven't connected with me as strongly as the ones from late 80s through early 2000s. I think Jane Hawk was my overall favorite series, but Chris Snow, Odd Thomas and Frankenstein are all great and worth reading.
Recent favorites of mine since Dean switched to Thomas & Mercer (Amazon Publishing) include: Elsewhere, Quicksilver, The House at the End of the World, Devoted
Happy Reading!
