Mark Baker I love it! Makes me feel so much less lazy/messy. It's emotional support.

The Mystery of Mistletoe Hall : A 1920s Mystery
by Benedict Brown

I skipped ahead in the series for two reasons: I needed a Christmas book and I wanted to see if Christopher matured. I liked this better than the first book in the series and didn't find Christopher as irritating but that could be because this was ebook and I could speed read parts while I did first book in audio. Haven't decided if I will read more of this series.

L J Magical Mystery Book Club #1
Shifting and Shenanigans (Magical Mystery Book Club #1) by Elizabeth Pantley
Shifting and Shenanigans
by Elizabeth Pantley

Not as humorous as I hoped from some of the reviews. Yes, it is as over the top heavy on tropes as reviews indicated and I found it kind of entertaining but I also found it kind of boring and for me it wasn't laugh out loud funny.

QNPoohBear Town in a Blueberry Jam Town in a Blueberry Jam (A Candy Holliday Mystery, #1) by B.B. Haywood

Not loving it so far. It's an older one and darker backstory for the heroine than I would like. Darker story too. The first scene is grim (view spoiler) Not enough blueberry baking so far and I just got to the second murder.

message 807: by Meg (new)

Meg I'm making inroads on my older tbrs, and am partway through One Taste Too Many (Sarah Blair Mystery, #1) by Debra H. Goldstein One Taste Too Many. Earlier today I finished another cozy, this one set in Nebraska (cool, right?), Death by Dissertation (Cassandra Sato #1) by Kelly Brakenhoff Death by Dissertation.

message 808: by QNPoohBear (new)

QNPoohBear Did not enjoy Town in a Blueberry Jam. I won't be reading more of them. I'm stuck now waiting for my next new cozies to come in at the library. I have some Kindle freebies to read though in the meantime.

I like that series and it always makes me want to go to tea on the Cape. My big problem with the series is that it feels generic seaside and nothing about it says Cape Cod to me, as someone who grew up spending summers on the Cape and has family there.

About a year ago, I was so looking forward to reading this because it sounded great, but I read that first scene and it was kinda horrifying. That is not a cozy. I was so disappointed and couldn't read further. It took me a while to get over that scene.

Thanks for the warning.

I'm not over the "cozy" that started with gruesome murder and victim burying. Murder scenes from murderer or victim POV are not cozy.

L J First book in Cornwall spin-off series
The Vampire Knitting Club Cornwall (Vampire Knitting Club Cornwall, #1) by Nancy Warren
The Vampire Knitting Club: Cornwall
by Nancy Warren

Want more. Want more now. If the next book were already available I'd be reading it instead of writing this.

New vampires, new witches, mystery, murder, and Lochlan Balfour (Vampire Reading Club). When I'm reading scenes with him Lochlan is my favorite vampire so he added to me liking the book. This book made me very happy except it ended too soon. I wanted more!

ETA: Some reviews have criticized the ending as being too abrupt but I didn't see it that way. The case was solved in part due to info early in book so it wasn't out of nowhere solution. After resolution there's talk about upcoming Knitting Club meeting but that is part of series story arc so for me not having meeting in book is not a cliffhanger.

Alice I started another one by Vicki Delany Deadly Summer Nights Deadly Summer Nights (Catskill Summer Resort Mystery #1) by Vicki Delany . This one is set in 1953 in a summer resort in Catskills Mountains in upstate New York. I am enjoying it so far.

I was horrified too and almost put it down. I gave it a chance and the second murder is off page but the heroine does some REALLY dumb stuff in her investigation, for no good reason.

message 817: by Zermeena (new)

Zermeena I listened to Tea & Treachery and Murder in a Teacup. I thought they were okay but not great. I didn't enjoy having an annoying grandmother and an annoying best friend. This was toned down in the second book, so maybe it gets better as the series continues. I did like Lily and the teashop so I will probably read more.

There were different narrators for each book and both were dreadful for different reasons.

The newest one is far better in terms of toning down the secondary characters. I too find them both annoying. I like the series but it's not a top favorite. The Cape Cod content is super generic seaside and I wish it was a little more specific. I didn't grow up on that side of the Cape though.

Yup. I think it can be done cozy, like from the killer's POV depending on how it's done. But it seems generally those are not cozies at all.
From the victim's POV? That'd be tricky to make "cozy" so I'd probably avoid those too - when I know in advance.
Anytime I can warn someone - I'm glad! I get warned by so many people in my life, I'm glad I can pay it forward!

Melissa I just finished Cheddar Off Dead (Cheese Shop Mystery #1) by Korina Moss Cheddar Off Dead by Korinna Moss. I love cheese, so a cheese shop cozy sounded like a great idea to me!
I'm also listening to Catering to Nobody (A Goldy Bear Culinary Mystery, #1) by Diane Mott Davidson Catering to Nobody by Diane Mott Davidson. I'm not loving the narrator, though, so I'm picking up the book from the library and going to switch over to reading instead of listening.

QNPoohBear Finished another wonderful book in the Beatrice Hyde-Clare mystery series (e-ARC)
A Murderous Tryst A Murderous Tryst (Beatrice Hyde-Clare Mysteries, #12) by Lynn Messina

Funny and sweet as usual. It occurs JUST as A Lark's Flight is ending so be sure you read Verity's story first or risk spoilers. It was fun to see Damien's reaction and I do hope Bea and Verity team up for an investigation soon. Poor Kesgrave will just have to accept it and make sure Bea's self-defense lessons continue! I think Verity already knows that.

I could have requested the ARC but I prefer to support the library whenever possible. I love Jenn's mysteries and sometimes her romcoms. I'm eager for Vol. 2 of the cupcake cookbook. I made Moonlight Madness cupcakes and they were sooo good, like a Mounds Bar.

I read the ARCs when I can get them, but then I check out a copy from my library when it's available. I usually turn it back in after just a day or two, so I don't hold things up for the next person on the holds list.
