Such a good series! I'm up to the third one, as well.

I liked Magic, Lies and Deadly Pies but not enough to want to read more. I ADORE The Countess of Harleigh and can't wait to see what Fran gets up to next (along with her swoony neighbor.)

I read Muffin But Trouble Muffin But Trouble (Apple Orchard Cozy Mystery Book 17) by Chelsea Thomas
It was engaging enough to keep my attention but I've outgrown this style of writing. It's too silly and unrealistic for me. Plus the repeated use of "alright" and "donut" drove me up a wall.

i absolutely understand that about Magic, Lies, and Deadly Pies... it was most definitely not your typical cozy (i've heard people say it doesn't even count as one lol). i adore frances and george's relationship!! it's so cute how they go back and forth and have so much fun. it's definitely a series i'll be reading the whole way through!

message 606: by QNPoohBear (new)

QNPoohBear When my niece is a little older (she's a new 14), I will recommend Magic, Lies, and Deadly Pies. It's more up her alley than mine. I was just thinking about that book though when I heard about a high profile case involving a male college athlete from the college my brother works at.

George from the Countess of Harleigh mysteries is so swoony! I love his sense of humor but also how much he supports Frances. His sister is a little annoying sometimes but she's a good friend to Fran. Fran's family drives me up a wall in A Lady's Guide to Mischief and Murder but the confrontation scene (view spoiler) I am eagerly awaiting the next volume in the series.

Barb Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I couldn't find a folder that seemed more appropriate. Mods, if you want me to post this elsewhere, please let me know, thanks.

For those who listen to audiobooks and haven't yet started Ellery Adams' Secret, Book and Scone Society series, the first three books are on sale at ChirpBooks.com until May 15, for a total of $4.99 ($US). That's less than you usually pay for just one audiobook :) Or you can buy them individually for $2.99, if you've already read one or two of them.

Barb, are you happy with the quality of their audiobooks? I haven't tried one, and hesitate because in the past I've heard negative comments about the listening experience.

It was cancelled after 3 books but the author is working on a new series now.

I read First Edition Murder
It was a pleasant diversion on an airplane but not much more. There's baking, rare books and pets so I was bound to like it but this first one didn't quite wow me. I'd read another if it was free.

I hoped it would continue too. I learned a lot about classic Golden Age mysteries. Like the heroine, I'm a Jane Austen and Victorian lit person and know very little about the Golden Age of mysteries. I was curious so I read Murder Must Advertise. I would have read Frenchman's Creek if Marty Wingate hadn't spoiled the ending!

message 639: by Zermeena (new)

Zermeena QNPoohBear - I haven't read Frenchman's Creek in ages but I remember it being very atmospheric and plan to reread it at some point. It is classic Daphne du Maurier.

QNPoohBear Fateful Words Fateful Words A Scottish Bookshop Mystery (A Scottish Bookshop Mystery, 8) by Paige Shelton

I always enjoy a trip to The Cracked Spine but this one has me ready to book a trip to Edinburgh! Forget the mystery, I want to go on Edwin's tour! Delaney said the literal magic word "Hogwarts" and I was in. Then she said "Greyfriar's Bobby" and I was hooked. Not to mention everything in the warehouse and Delaney's office... mystery? What mystery? LOL!

I'm not done yet but I have my suspicions about who might be involved but I haven't put anything together yet. I only figured out one thing in the beginning that seemed a little obvious to me but not to any of the characters. Later, it's pointed out why that was.
