Richard Milleville Hi, I'm Richard and new to the group. I not reading one now but writing one and have chapter one finished. If I find one that interests me I'll be glad to read and review it. I'm from the Midwest and unlike migrating birds have flown to Arizona to stay. Looking forward to chatting with one and all.

Shala Hello everybody. I'm new to the group. I live in a very small town in Oklahoma where I am the English teacher and speech/drama coach. I'm also a mom and a wife. I've loved to read all my life, and cozy mysteries are one of my favorite genres. I look forward to joining some of the monthly reads.

Janice Richardson Hi Shala. Welcome!

message 354: by ~*Kim*~ (new)

~*Kim*~ Hi! I'm new here. My name is Kim and I'm from Texas. As of right now, my favorite cozy series is the Hannah Swenson series. I'm also becoming a fan of the Taste of Texas series as well.

Looking forward to chatting about and discovering new cozy mysteries.

J.C. Kenney Hi, folks! My name is J.C. Kenney. I'm both a reader and writer of cozy mystery. My favorite classic cozy author is Agatha Christie. I also love contemporary cozies, though I have too many favorite contemporary authors to choose one. Looking forward to chatting with you all!

message 356: by Helen (new)

Helen Loveland Hello everyone! I'm Helen and I've been reading cozy mysteries many years. A few of my current favorite series are Carola Dunn's Daisy Dalrymple Mysteries, Julie Mulhern's Country Club murders, and M.C. Beaton's Agatha Raisin Mysteries. Looking forward to discussing your thoughts on these and many other cozies with you all.

Kirsten I love Daisy!! Welcome!!

message 358: by Jane (new)

Jane I'm waiting for the next Daisy, & also enjoy the Eleanors.

message 359: by Jade (new)

Jade Wright Hey everyone - I used to be so active on Goodreads groups but have been so crazy busy lately! I would like to get back involved in the community especially with you guys who also love cozy mysteries! What is everyone currently reading?
I'm about to start Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis THEN a nice thriller called Lullaby. Anyone read it??
Not sure if this is allowed, if not please let me know but to reintroduce myself... my name is Jade! I'm a 27 year old book lover, book reviewer, bookish podcast host, bookstagrammer AND author PHEW.. hahaha.
I just had my book published and would love to share it with you all but don't want to break any rules. If anyone is interested let me know.. it's a cozy psychological thriller murder mystery! :)

message 360: by Dennis (new)

Dennis Carter I read a lot of mysteries (much else too). I like mysteries that teach and entertain and that aren't too detailed in blood and guts (unless there is a scientific, or biological need for the description -as in Kathy Reichs' books). Nevada Barr's books are good for the natural science researched into them. I also have read all of Faye Kellerman's because I find the cultural aspects so interesting. In all these authors cases, the mystery stories are excellent also.

Any suggestions, to find new mystery authors that similarly enrich while entertaining and exercising one's mystery-solving mind? Or suggestions about using this group to help find a couple new mystery writers of the type I like?

message 361: by Jane (new)

Jane There are at least 2 series set in Amish country, if you're interested in how that culture works. I'd have to dig to find them - if you're not interested, I won't look.

message 362: by Dennis (new)

Dennis Carter Yes, thank you. Just find the authors if you can. I'll try them.

message 363: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten There seem to be a lot of books set in Amish country. Goodreads probably has a list if you Google "Amish novels"

Amanda Flower & Laura Bradford are the two I've read & liked.

Also, someone asked about historical mysteries. I just finished Cheryl Honigford's series of 3 (so far) set in Chicago in the very early 1930s. The setup is that an actress was killed in a radio station, The younger woman given the dead actress' role is the protagonist. I really enjoyed them.

message 365: by Dennis (new)

Dennis Carter thanks. I'm looking up Honigford's books right now.

Pappy Drake Hello. My name is Bill and am an avid reader of mysteries of all kinds. I got into mysteries years ago with Lawrence Sanders, Robert B. Parker, Joseph Wambaugh and the likes but got really attached to Agatha Christie where I found I relished cozy mysteries. I am a retired Police Officer and had my share of the raw police procedural and found the amateur sleuth quite comforting, after all most crimes are solved by the observant types who are a wealth of information. Character development is my passion along with quaint settings especially if it is European. Looking forward to reading comments from this group and I will keep a behind the scenes approach for now.

Welcome, Bill. If you like European settings, I recommend Rhys Bowen's Her Royal Spyness series set in 1930s London.

Welcome, Dennis. If you enjoy Nevada Barr's mysteries, I'll recommend my RM Outdoor Adventures series, which has been compared by reviewers to early Nevada Barr books, before she got into more "icky stuff," as I call it. The RM Outdoor Adventures series is set in your native Colorado, features a whitewater river ranger, and delves into topics such as water rights in the west, fly-fishing tournaments, and protecting the sensitive western riparian environment. The first book is Deadly Currents.

message 372: by Kelli (new)

Kelli Hello! My name is Kelli and I discovered cozy mysteries a few years ago. I was wondering if the books listed here are all by Christian authors? I have tried a few secular cozies but was disappointed that they had foul language. I'm looking forward to getting to know others and discovering new to me authors here!

message 373: by AlegnaB † (new)

AlegnaB † Hi. I’ve enjoyed reading mysteries since my sister’s best friend lent me The Hardy Boys books in the 1970’s. I’ve also loved watching mystery television shows since I was a preteen, at least, although I’ve watched very few in the last couple of decades, and most of those I’ve watched with ClearPlay in order to mute or skip offensive stuff.

Although I love cozy mysteries, they are only a small percentage of the books I read. I’ve read only 21 cozies out of 192 books this year. But I’m always interested in finding new cozy books to enjoy.

I'm going to say no on that, but I would imagine you could do a search by Christian authors only. What do you consider "foul" language? I don't come across many cozies with cussing in them.

Kelli Thanks Melodie any swearing or lewd comments/ jokes or if there are scenes about sex or sex before marriage

Melodie Kelli wrote: "Thanks Melodie any swearing or lewd comments/ jokes or if there are scenes about sex or sex before marriage"

I can't think of any cozies with actual sex scenes. Would consider that way outside the realm of cozies. Some kissing, etc and maybe something that might allude to the characters maybe spending the night together, but actual sex, no.

message 377: by Kelli (new)

Kelli Thanks Melodie !

Dorota Hello everyone, i'm Dora always loved mystery from like i was 9 =) and try every mystery book for kids and it stayed that way till now. I love reading with a hot cup of coffee, tea or chocolate with my dog curled up on the sofa with me and sometimes my 3 year old daughter joining us =) with too many books and in the end we end up seating on the carpet haha.
I'm currently waiting for Death Cloud, Red Leech and Knots and Crosses from the local library. I finally menage to reserved them. its really nice to meet all of you.

message 380: by Rachael (new)

Rachael Lundy-Davis Hey fellow readers. I'm new to this group, and would like to say that while I don't read cozy mysteries often, they are much needed in between some of the darker or heavier stories. I absolutely love them at the right time, and also when they are holiday-themed. I want to feel the time relevance (especially cozy Christmas and Halloween related themes). Maybe that's just me, but that's how I roll with my Cozy Mystery reading.

You might want to try these authors:
JoAnna Carl
Joanne Fluke
Ann B. Ross
Elaine Viets

I hope this helps a little. Here is a good website to go to and it is called www.fantasticfiction.com. This how I figure out what book I might want to read.

message 382: by Helen (new)

Helen Loveland I love Christmas and Thanksgiving themed especially. One of my favorites is also a series starter: Diva Runs Out of Thyme by Krista Davis. It's a fun series and as you can tell by the title, has a culinary theme.

message 383: by Rachael (new)

Rachael Lundy-Davis I just added Diva Runs Out of Thyme to my TBR. Thanks for the rec!

Mary Hathaway HI everybody! I'm Mary and for a long time, I left goodreads because it seemed overwhelming to see the lists of books I didn't have time to read... but I've recently caught up on work, my teens are headed to/in college, and I have a lot more time! So, instead of taking up another hobby, I've come back to my first love: reading. I read everything, but prefer mysteries and thrillers, especially British cozies.
I'm also an author (I'll post in the author section).
Thanks and I'm looking forward to all the reading and discussion!

Hi Marie, Thanks for the list of book series! These titles really appeal to me

message 387: by Peggy (new)

Peggy Hi everyone! My name is Peggy and I have been on Goodreads for several years. I always enjoy mysteries and thrillers but read across a large variety of genres. Last year I hit a reading low finishing only 10 books for the year! A busy work schedule and lots of stress killed my desire to read. I now have renewed my love of reading by focusing on cozies which I find especially relaxing. I have been a long time fan of the Royal Spyness series and plan on catching up (I'm on book #6). I am also exploring a variety of different themed series and really appreciate all the recommendations this group provides. I'm looking forward to the monthly reads and book discussions!

message 388: by Donna (new)

Donna Driver Hi, all. I'm an Australian author. My first novel was published in 2016 -- and republished in 2018 after my publisher closed its doors. (It's a time travel story, not a Cozy Story.)

Since having "The Path Chosen" published, and suffering depression for several months, my writing was virtually shelved. In trying to find my 'mojo', recently, I scanned new genres and found I love cozy mysteries, so I am now working on my first one, and I am here hoping to discover what YOU love about this genre! :)

message 389: by Laci (new)

Laci Hargis Hi my name is Laci! I teach 1st grade and I love to read. My favorite genre is mystery’s. I am a huge James Patterson fan. I am looking forward to meeting new people.

Courtney the Great Hello! My name is Courtney and I am trying to un-lurk and get more involved. I've loved cozy mysteries ever since high school, but recently I've found myself running into a lot of duds. I look forward to getting to know everyone here.

˚.🎀༘⋆ Jasmine Hello everyone! Im new to this group. I love reading while drinking hot chocolate, while listening to Melanie Martinez.
Im a teen, but I am not on social media and instead reading and reviewing books. YA novels and fiction are my favorite type of books. I hope I can make friends and meet book lovers here!

message 392: by Madhuri (new)

Madhuri V Hi, I am Madhuri. I love reading, mysteries and thrillers are my genres.I enjoy watching movies and also like traveling. I am glad to be part of this group and looking forward to meet new people who also love books (that's a given here) :)

message 393: by Rishika (new)

Rishika Aggarwal Hey guys! I'm Rishika, and I'm new here! I've fallen in love with historical cozy mysteries recently, and I especially love ones that have TV series/movies so I can then go compare them to their screen adaptations :P

I love to read, and I don't have a particular genre to read, truth be told - just what I'm fixated on at the moment. Right now, of course, that's mysteries!

I'm thrilled to be here, and look forward to getting to know you guys! :)

Welcome Chelsea! I love audioboooks and often find them the only way to "read" when my schedule is hectic. I find it's a great way to spend time in traffic and helps me get through tasks that don't take a lot of brain power. When a book gets its hooks into me, I suddenly feel inspired to clean out closets and kitchen junk drawers ;).

Hi Rishika! Do you have any recommendations for historical cozies with TV series/movies out right now?

message 398: by Lina (new)

Lina Hansen Hi there,
I'm Lina and I've been reading mostly cozy mysteries for years. If they are historical, I like them even better. Or if they have a magical twist. Or a cat/dog. Or food. Or all of it together.
I hope to get more recommendations for great reads and swap comments.
Yes, I also write cozies, but I'm not published yet. I'm not here to "peddle my wares" so to speak ;)

message 399: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Hi Everyone!
My name is Jennifer and I once was a member of this group, left for awhile as life got too hectic, and now I am back!
Slightly cozy mystery obsessed I read almost anything thematically. Love food based mysteries, first getting acquainted with cozy mysteries by reading Diane Mott Davidson's books. I read seven of them and realized, "Hey, there are a lot more cozy mysteries out there to be read!". That led me down the rabbit hole. Some of my favourite authors have been Kirsten Weiss, Amanda Flower, Peter Tremayne, Lorna Barrett, and many others!

Looking for others with similar book interests, and hoping to meet some new cozy fans while here :)

Arriah Kiprujistho Hello Everyone..
My name is Arriah. I am 30 years old and recently became active on Goodreads when I realised there is so much to explore here. I am also an indie author and want to start focussing on my passion for writing. By being here, joining the groups of readers and authors, it kind of motivates me to follow my passion. I am really, really and really glad to connect with you all.

Thanks for inspiring me. I need it :-)
