Book 2 in what started as an experiment! Reviews of Book 1 indicated that the experiment was working, so I decided to continue the series....
The experiment? I spent a good number of years doing literary research on the iconic hard-boiled detective protagonist in the tradition of Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett (think 1940s Humphrey Bogart movies). I wondered what would happen if you took that cynical, hard-as-nails Private Eye and dropped him into a modern-day city?
So I developed a background and set of characters, particularly Clay Clayton, the PI from San Diego, formerly of the Pinkerton Agency and now with Doubleday Detective Agency. He is complete with 1940s style suits and skinny ties (nope... no hat. Sorry), drives the same 1981 International Scout he owned in high school, and is witty and tough-skinned as they come.
