Harley Christensen currently lives in Phoenix, Arizona with her significant other and their own mischievous motley crew of rescue dogs (aka the “kids”).

When not at her laptop, Christensen is an avid hockey fan and lover of all things margarita. It’s also rumored she’s never met a green chile or jalapeño she didn’t like, regardless of whether it liked her back.

She is the author of the Mischievous Malamute Mystery Series and Six Seasons Suspense Series.

Ahh...for me, this is more about "monkey mind" than a block and suddenly, I'm chasing all the shiny objects...lol. :D

I find it's best to push away from the laptop, or put down the pen and find something else to do. Sometimes, I take out my camera and shoot a couple of pics or pull out a coloring book, colored pencils and scribble both inside (and outside) the lines. More often than not, however, I tend to head outside for a long walk with my dogs, where we typically end up at the park and act silly for a bit.

Typically, one of the above works like a charm...but if it doesn't, it's best to call it a day and start fresh the next.

How about you? How do you maintain productivity or get back into the groove when you've hit a mental roadblock or monkey mind gets you off track? Please share!(less)

“his left shoulder. As Ramirez started in that direction, Jabawski called after him, laughing, “Watch out for the big bad wolf, he’s got a mouth on him, too.”   ###   Everything was moving in slow motion. Or at least it appeared to be. Police officers and crime scene technicians swarmed like worker bees from the hive, scouting out their surroundings meticulously, in hope of finding even the most minuscule of clues. I’d spoken to several officers and carefully detailed my actions before finding”

“The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he's always doing both. ”
James A. Michener

“Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.”
Roald Dahl

“On writing, my advice is the same to all. If you want to be a writer, write. Write and write and write. If you stop, start again. Save everything that you write. If you feel blocked, write through it until you feel your creative juices flowing again. Write. Writing is what makes a writer, nothing more and nothing less. --- Ignore
critics. Critics are a dime a dozen. Anybody can be a critic. Writers are priceless. ---- Go where the pleasure is in your writing. Go where the pain is. Write the book you would like to read. Write the book you have been trying to find but have not found. But write. And remember, there are no rules for our profession. Ignore rules. Ignore what I say here if it doesn't help you. Do it your own way.
--- Every writer knows fear and discouragement. Just write. --- The world is crying for new writing. It is crying for fresh and original voices and new characters and new stories. If you won't write the classics of tomorrow, well, we will not have any. Good luck.”
Anne Rice

“You can't just turn on creativity like a faucet. You have to be in the right mood.
What mood is that?
Last-minute panic.”
Bill Watterson

“Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions.”
Albert Einstein
